
As a small, owner-directed wilderness program, Soltreks, Inc. seeks to provide customized wilderness experiences that meet the needs of each
individual and their family. Program options include One-on-One Treks, a Summer Adventure Program, Specialty Treks/Adult Program and a Winter Adventure Program. The small group treks offer an instructor to student ratio of 1:3. Program areas include northern Minnesota in the spring/summer/fall and Florida and New Mexico in the winter and early spring. Seasonal activities may include backpacking, rock climbing, sea kayaking, canoeing, biking, ropes course, climbing wall, and service learning.

Current Seasonal Positions
Wilderness Instructors (Seasonal)
Location: Minnesota, New Mexico & Florida
Description: Responsibilities include the planning, preparation, and delivery of a therapeutic program. Teach a variety of outdoor living skills; facilitate emotional growth learning by teaching effective communication, problem solving, and relationship building, and safety skills. Document student progress for program summary. Works as a team with program directors and staff to deliver program and treatment goals to students.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred. Experience with adolescents, ability to engage students in a variety of adventure activities, experience in technical skills of trek area, solid wilderness ethics, and strong skills in group and individual counseling, commitment to own personal growth, self-motivated, flexible, team player. CPR, WFR, or WEMT required. Lifeguard or WSI desired. Current driver’s license required.

Seasonal Therapist(s): This is a full time seasonal position. Three and six month positions available starting in May.
Location: Minnesota
Description: Leads the treatment and assessment of assigned program participants. Principal emphasis of position is to direct, document, and communicate the therapy of students to include: field therapy oversight, individual and group therapy, weekly parent teleconference sessions, treatment planning and field visits. Develop and nurture relationships with students, staff, parents, and referring professionals. A high level of independent judgment, initiative, flexibility, and problem-solving skills required. We are looking for flexible team members with a positive attitude!
Qualifications: Masters degree from accredited school in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field. Licensed required or working toward licensure. Direct clinical, case management experience, group leadership experience, and knowledge regarding multimodal treatment approaches toward individualized treatment planning. Experience in client assessment, individual and group psychotherapy, and development of individual treatment and aftercare planning. Experience in therapeutic wilderness programs preferred. Strong clinical and interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Physical fitness level adequate to perform field duties as needed: hiking and carrying up to 45 lbs.

Logistical Support
Location: Minnesota
Responsibilities: Support field crews, transports students and re-supplies field with gear/food; assists with gear inventory and care, occasional overnights and student supervision. Attend instructor and logistics training.
Qualifications: Organizational skills, commitment to youth, familiar with wilderness gear, First Aid and CPR certifications, van/trailer driving experience, excellent driving record, and attention to detail, flexible.

Internship Opportunities
Internships available seasonally for 12 to 20 weeks facilitated by highly trained wilderness instructors and supervised by a master’s level Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. This opportunity offers participation in the administrative, therapeutic facilitation, logistical support, and assessment process of a 4 – 6 week trek. Interns receive a stipend upon the conclusion of their experience, and may be eligible for future instructor roles.
Responsibilities: 12 week minimum commitment, attend intern and instructor training and orientation, participate in the preparation, planning, facilitation, and debrief of the trek.
Qualifications: At least 21 years of age, coursework in therapeutic recreation, counseling, outdoor education or related field, current drivers license, certification in CPR and First Aid, and a current physical examination. Must be comfortable living in the outdoors for several weeks.
